Being a Photographer: A Reflection

A photographer is a very isolated human being. They are around people constantly, but they are constantly thinking about the next shoot or next shot.
Photography, to me personally, is very minimalist. Other people tend to say that I begin and end with a camera and that might be true for all photographic artists. And whether photographers are on the moon or renting a photo studio, the best picture possible always has to be taken.

The many different layers of capturing an image are different for all of us. The “perfect shot” has changed over the years and each shoot is a process. What I can advise, after many years being a photographer, are to simplify the steps of preparation. I will provide a list of steps you can take to assist you with this.

Preparing for Photography Shoot
  1. The first step is that a brief has to be met, self-imposed or otherwise, regarding the goals of the shoot or client needs.
  2. Next, you must plan where the shoot is going to take place. Contact any rental studios, if necessary, as far in advance as possible. If you are not shooting in a studio, you have to select an environment that best represents your subject.
  3. Thirdly, you must be prepared to set up your lighting. Lighting is a necessity for almost every shoot whether you are outdoors in the local park or in a studio.
  4. Finally, you should be willing and able to adapt to your surroundings.

Happy Shooting!
